Basketball Recap: Canutillo Falls Short of Mansfield Summit in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Canutillo couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 73-55 to the Mansfield Summit Jaguars. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Canutillo's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Bonilla, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 14 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Bonilla has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Donovan Mozer was another key player, going 5-for-12 en route to 14 points and five assists.

Bonilla wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Canutillo was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Canutillo's loss dropped their record down to 24-10. As for Mansfield Summit, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 30-7 record this season.

Canutillo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mansfield Summit, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Jaguars take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
