Basketball Recap: Newman Greenies vs. Terrebonne Tigers
The Newman Greenies had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They took down Terrebonne 68-53. Given Newman's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Tigers are ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newman got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Todd Jones out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Jones hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayden Langdon, who scored 16 points.
Newman pushed their record up to 13-10 with that win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.9 points per game. As for Terrebonne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-13 record this season.
Newman will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Terrebonne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
