Softball Recap: Valencia Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Valencia can now relate to. They fell just short of the Yorba Linda Mustangs by a score of 5-3 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Vikings have suffered since March 27th.

Carly Kearns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Blair Rune was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Sydney Bolder also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Valencia has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Yorba Linda, they pushed their record up to 15-12 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Valencia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Yorba Linda, they have already played their next match, a 14-3 victory against Valley Christian on the 21st.
