Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Marauders vs. Connersville Spartans
Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Connersville Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Marauders of the 11-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.
Emma Jenkins was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Oger, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Connersville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will host Columbus East at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Connersville, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Richmond at 5:30 p.m. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.75 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
