Preview: Overton Eagles vs. Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons
Overton is 9-1 against the Falcons since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Overton Eagles will face off against the Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Overton comes in on 14 and the Falcons on four.
In what's become a running theme this season, Overton gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They put the hurt on Ansley/Litchfield with a sharp 56-33 win. 56 seems to be a good number for Overton as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
It was another big night for Natalie Wood, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Ashlyn Florell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Even though Wilcox-Hildreth has not done well against the Broncos recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Wilcox-Hildreth snuck past the Broncos with a 38-32 win.
Madison Bunger was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Bunger, who scored 12 points.
Overton pushed their record up to 18-1 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Overton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wilcox-Hildreth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Overton came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 35-33. Will Overton repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
