Fort Bend Christian Academy extended the longest winning streak in TAPPS Division II District 4 this week by beating Lutheran North, 63-12. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Eagles.
Westbury Christian moved up to 493 from 592 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to make the jump by beating Lutheran South 48-14.
Fort Bend Christian Academy's dynamic duo of Kellen Kacal and Jack Thomas proved tough for the Lions to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kacal threw for 147 yards and three touchdowns and Thomas had 83 yards receiving. Cody Beeman helped Fort Bend Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching five balls for 42 yards.
Nelson Gunnell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lutheran North lost to David Roberts' team. He completed 13 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 184 yards. Gunnell's favorite target this week was Brandon Slater, who caught five passes for 60 yards.
Cameron Shih made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Eagles beat Thump Phillips' team. The 5-foot-9 freshman grabbed 2.0 sacks.
The Lions' Gunnell and Slater have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gunnell has thrown for 1109 yards this season, while Slater, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 29 catches for 439 yards. Carter Odenweller from Northland Christian leads the league in rushing with 546 yards.
A big matchup in TAPPS Division II District 4 this week will be when Fort Bend Christian Academy takes on Second Baptist. At the moment, the Eagles are in second, while the Fighting Eagles are in third.
Fort Bend Christian Academy led the league in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on Lutheran North. Kacal ran for 49 yards in the win.
