Oswego is 8-2 against Romeoville since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers will welcome the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Oswego is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
If Oswego beats Romeoville with 14 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Panthers' pitchers stepped up to hand Plainfield East a 14-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Panthers have beaten the Bengals the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bengals has come to flipping the script.
Jaelynn Anthony was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Oswego got a big performance out of Adalynn Fugitt, who went 2-for-3 with three runs. Another player making a difference was Aubriella Garza, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Romeoville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Yorkville, falling 10-0.
Lillian Roberts spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on seven hits.
Oswego's win was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Romeoville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
Romeoville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Oswego hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. It's a different story for Romeoville, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Oswego's hitters?
Oswego took their win against Romeoville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
