The Troup Tigers will challenge the Hooks Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Troup is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Troup is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Anderson-Shiro get on the board and left with a 55-0 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Fighting Owls are ranked 798th).
Brett Wells had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 278 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 166 yards and three TDs while completing 86.7% of his passes. His longest rush was for an incredible 93 yards. Troup's leading receiver Cameron Hollie was Wells' top target yet again, picking up 91 receiving yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Troup was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 478 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
Meanwhile, Hooks blew past Lone Oak, posting a 47-10 win. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won six contests by 26 points or more so far this season.
Troup better keep an eye on Ripken Birdwell. He was instrumental in Hooks' win, throwing for 285 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 35 yards and one TD.
Hooks didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Jay Smith was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself. Jasper Crain was another major factor on D, making nine total tackles (6.0 for loss).
Troup's victory bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Hooks, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Troup has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 249 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hooks struggles in that department as they've been averaging 259.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Troup suffered a grim 34-14 defeat to Hooks in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for the Tigers, Trip Baysinger (who threw for 116 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 50 yards and one score) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
