Basketball Recap: East Mecklenburg Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

East Mecklenburg had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past the Garinger Wildcats with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 49-34. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 51-36 loss the last time these two teams met.

East Mecklenburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kameyah Browm out in front who posted nine points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Samariah Freeman, who put up eight points in addition to nine boards and five steals.

East Mecklenburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

East Mecklenburg's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7. As for Garinger, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.

East Mecklenburg will take on East Lincoln in a tournament on December 27th. East Lincoln knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully East Mecklenburg likes a good challenge. As for Garinger, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Independence at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Garinger is facing Independence at the right time seeing as Independence is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
