Basketball Recap: Brighton Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Alta

On Tuesday, Brighton faced Alta in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Brighton Bengals fell 67-59 to the Alta Hawks. The Bengals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hawks earlier this season, when they won 64-55.

Several Bengals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josh Mawhinney, who posted 22 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Soto, who scored 13 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Alta got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Matt Mckea out in front who made all 7 shots he took for 17 points and four steals. Mckea is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played. Dash Reiser was another key player, putting up 19 points and five assists.

Brighton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for Alta, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6.

Coming up, Brighton will welcome East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alta does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
