Baseball Recap: Eustis Finds Playoff Glory Versus Jones

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Eustis had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Jones Fightin' Tigers a 15-0 shutout. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sean Griffin looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Eustis' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-2 (and 8-9 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Jacob Lucroy was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Couper Gatch, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Eustis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Eustis moved to 13-11 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for Jones, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Coming up, Eustis will square off against Mount Dora at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hurricanes' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Jones does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
