Baseball Game Preview: Dominguez Dons vs. Mayfair Monsoons

Dominguez is 0-7 against Mayfair since May of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Dominguez Dons will be playing at home against the Mayfair Monsoons at 3:15 p.m. Dominguez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Dominguez is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Firebaugh.

Oscar Villa put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. He has become a key player for Dominguez: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3-1 otherwise. Villa was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Villa wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Flores, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Daveon Brim also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Mayfair has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.55 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They came up short against Calvary Chapel, falling 12-6. That makes it the first time this season the Monsoons have let down their home crowd.

Like Dominguez, Mayfair also got a great game from a two-way player: Nolan Fox. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Fox has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Dominguez's loss dropped their record down to 5-4-1. As for Mayfair, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
