Softball Recap: Valhalla Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Valhalla had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Clairemont Chieftains by a score of 8-7. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Norsemen, who fell 4-2 when the teams last met back in May of 2023.

Devyn Mack spent all 9.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 16 hits.

On the hitting side, Preslee Fink made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Natalia Marco was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

Clairemont's win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-1.

Valhalla didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-3 defeat against Eastlake on the 1st. As for Clairemont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-1 victory against Mar Vista on the 4th.
