Baseball Recap: Sage Creek Has No Trouble Against Maranatha Christian

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sage Creek had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Maranatha Christian Eagles. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bobcats considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Josh Schutz looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Sage Creek's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 8-2 (and 9-10 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elijah Stephens, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Sean Saiki was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Sage Creek's victory bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Maranatha Christian, they dropped their record down to 7-21 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Sage Creek will challenge Torrey Pines at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maranatha Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
