Basketball Recap: Morehead Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Josiah Thomas and Avery Bigelow

Morehead suffered their closest loss since January 25th on Saturday. They fell just short of the Martinsville Bulldogs by a score of 51-48. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 36-33.

Morehead's loss came despite strong showings from Avery Bigelow and Josiah Thomas. Bigelow went 7 for 9 on his way to 21 points in addition to eight boards and four blocks, while Thomas went 7 of 14 on his way to 15 points along with seven assists and seven boards. Those seven assists gave Thomas a new career-high.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Morehead was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Among those leading the charge was Jayden Stockton, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Z. Tinsley, who put up nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Morehead and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Martinsville, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morehead will take on Eastern Alamance in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Martinsville and George Washington will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
