Softball Recap: Berlin Gets the Win

Berlin came out on top against East Catholic on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Redcoats took their game against the Eagles 11-7. With that win, the Redcoats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Callie Jehning spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on ten hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Izzy Andersen, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Callie Szymanski, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The victory made it two in a row for Berlin and bumps their season record up to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for East Catholic, the defeat was their first on the road, dropping their record down to 5-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berlin will face off against Platt at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Redcoats are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for East Catholic, they will welcome Tolland at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
