Softball Recap: Chico Takes a Loss

Chico had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 11-14 to make it four. They lost 11-4 to the Alvord Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 back in March.

Addyson Sides spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and eight unearned) runs on 15 hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Camdyn Marcus was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

As for Alvord, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games.

On Alvord's side, Makayla Gresham was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Gresham has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jayden Peters was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Bella McDermott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs.

Chico does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Alvord, they will challenge Archer City at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
