Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Los Lunas

Los Lunas extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 15-6 in the process. Everything went their way against the West Mesa Mustangs as they made off with an 8-2 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Natalie Madrid made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Los Lunas let Haidyn Garley and Jaslene Duran run wild. Garley got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double, while Duran went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacelyn Baca, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Los Lunas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in eight consecutive games.

As for West Mesa, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On West Mesa's side, Ellie Padilla made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Trinity 'Toots' Bazan, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

Coincidentally, Los Lunas and West Mesa will both be playing Atrisco Heritage Academy the next time they take the field. The Tigers will head out to face the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Mustangs will host them at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
