Softball Recap: Saugus Finds Home Field Redemption Against Canyon

There's no place like home for Saugus, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against the Canyon Cowboys on Thursday as the Saugus Centurions made off with a 12-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Centurions considering their one-run performance the game before.

The result came thanks to Taliya Mata's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kailey Lankford was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI. Amelia Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Lankford wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Saugus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Saugus' win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Canyon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Coming up, Saugus will host Valencia at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Canyon, they will head out to challenge West Ranch at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
