Softball Game Preview: Franklin Sabers vs. Oak Creek Knights

Franklin hasn't had much luck against Oak Creek recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Sabers are taking a road trip to take on the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Franklin had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Indian Trail on Thursday. The Sabers blew past the Hawks 15-5. That looming 15-5 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Sabers yet this season.

12 must be Oak Creek's lucky number: they beat New Berlin Eisenhower with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Knights beat the Lions by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-1. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.

Oak Creek pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Franklin, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4.

Franklin took their victory against Oak Creek in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sabers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
