Softball Game Preview: Onaway Cardinals vs. Johannesburg-Lewiston Cardinals

Onaway will head out on the road to take on Johannesburg-Lewiston at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

On Wednesday, Onaway made easy work of Mio HomeSchool and carried off a 20-4 victory.

Meanwhile, while Johannesburg-Lewiston put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Forest Area. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 23-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won eight in a row.

Emerson Valentine made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Valentine was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Johannesburg-Lewiston let Ashlynn Burke and Jaeden Briley run wild. Burke got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Briley went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Emery Lawes, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Onaway's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Johannesburg-Lewiston, their record now sits at 2-0.

Onaway suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Johannesburg-Lewiston in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Onaway avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
