Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kempsville). They never let the Salem Sundevils get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Thursday. The Chiefs have beaten the Sundevils the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Sundevils has come to flipping the script.
Kempsville got a great performance from Cole Bergenholtz as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Bergenholtz also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Chiefs are 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-10 otherwise.
At the plate, Calvin Webb and Sawyer Whitmore did most of the damage at the plate: Webb went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run, while Whitmore went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Whitmore a new career-high. Trent Sutryk was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Kempsville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salem struck out eight times.
Kempsville's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Salem, they dropped their record down to 3-15 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
