Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Powhatan

Powhatan proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Clover Hill Cavaliers 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since March 27th.

Brooklyn Narbut spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Harper, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Megan Gobble was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

The win (which was Powhatan's third in a row) raised their record to 11-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clover Hill, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5.

Powhatan and Clover Hill should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Indians (ranked 103rd) will meet Monacan (ranked 218th) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Clover Hill will take on James River Midlothian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (60 vs. 246).
