Baseball Game Preview: Tellico Plains Bears vs. Sweetwater Wildcats

The Tellico Plains Bears will head out on the road to take on the Sweetwater Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Tellico Plains is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Tellico Plains took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Robbinsville 13-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bears as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Cole Dodson looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits.

On the hitting side, Tellico Plains let John Broad and Rylan Woods run wild. Broad went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Woods scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those four RBI gave Broad a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dawson Edwards, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Tellico Plains always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robbinsville only posted an OBP of .391.

Meanwhile, Sweetwater had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Redskins, sneaking past 4-2.

The victory got Tellico Plains back to even at 9-9. As for Sweetwater, their record is now 14-4.

Tellico Plains might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Sweetwater in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
