The McGuffey Highlanders will face off against the Fort Cherry Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. McGuffey will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
McGuffey is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Keystone Oaks by a score of 11-6 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Highlanders have beaten the Golden Eagles on their field since April 12, 2017.
Sam Stout was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Logan Carlisle was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.
McGuffey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Fort Cherry put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Bentworth. The Rangers blew past the Bearcats 10-0. The win continues a trend for the Rangers in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won six in a row.
Ryan Huey was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. Huey was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Matt Sieg was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Colton Temple, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
The victory got McGuffey back to even at 3-3-1. As for Fort Cherry, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
McGuffey was able to grind out a solid victory over Fort Cherry in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 11-8. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
