Basketball Recap: Jayden Watlington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Shining Light Academy over Oak Forest

Shining Light Academy lost against Oak Forest on Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Knights fell 52-46 to the Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Warriors are ranked 32nd).

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayden Watlington, who posted six points along with seven boards and three steals. Watlington is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Evaro, who had 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Shining Light Academy and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Oak Forest, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-1.

Shining Light Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-48 victory against Calvary Christian on the 9th. As for Oak Forest, they will venture away from home to challenge Chatham HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' defense better be ready for this one: the Thunder have averaged an impressive 54.5 points per game this season.
