Liberty Magnet has gone a perfect 4-0 against East Iberville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Liberty Magnet Patriots will head out on the road to take on the East Iberville Tigers at 9:30 a.m. Liberty Magnet's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so East Iberville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Liberty Magnet earned a 7-3 victory over Independence. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.
Seth Trosclair made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Tavarius Brown was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Daniel Sanchez was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East Iberville). They put the hurt on Southern Lab with a sharp 17-7 win on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Kittens recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Liberty Magnet, East Iberville also got a great game from a two-way player: Cort Willis. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave Willis a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Noah Cushenberry was a standout: he scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. East Iberville is 2-1 when Cushenberry posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Cardez White also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
East Iberville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Lab only posted an OBP of .394.
Liberty Magnet's record is now 7-3. As for East Iberville, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Liberty Magnet has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. However, it's not like East Iberville struggles in that department as they've averaged .497. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
