Buena Vista dropped their record down to 6-8 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Monte Vista Pirates, falling 17-1. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Demons couldn't push the score so high this time.
As for Monte Vista, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.3 runs.
For Monte Vista's part, Kaden Mellott made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Mellott has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Judah Howe was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Azariah Hurtado was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Coming up, Buena Vista will host La Junta at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Demons are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Monte Vista, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 17-1 win against Rangely on the 26th.
