Softball Recap: Lyons Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Lyons had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the East Rochester Bombers. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by eight runs or more this season.

Rylee Richardson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Addison VanLare was incredible, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and two triples while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elise Wilkinson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .654. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .433 or higher in three consecutive games.

Lyons' win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for East Rochester, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyons will take on Waterloo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for East Rochester, they will face off against Clyde-Savannah at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Bombers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.9 runs per game this season.
