Baseball Game Preview: Castle Park Trojans vs. Ramona Bulldogs

The Castle Park Trojans will square off against the Ramona Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Castle Park gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They won by a run and slipped past Liberty Charter 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

The team relied heavily on Xavier Melendrez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Castle Park is 3-1 when Melendrez posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Peyton Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Ramona had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They never let the Mariners get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.

Derek Taylor was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cal Melendez, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Castle Park's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Ramona, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
