Football Game Preview: Coahoma County Red Panthers vs. Independence Wildcats + How To Watch

The Coahoma County Red Panthers will take on the Independence Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coahoma County will be strutting in after a win while Independence will be coming in after a defeat.

Coahoma County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 52-0 victory over Holly Springs. The team ran away with 50 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the win.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Coahoma County, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Radarius Crawford, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from him.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Coahoma County's defense and their four sacks. Holly Springs' QB won't forget Zechariah Smith anytime soon given he sacked him 2.5 times. Another thorn in the Hawks' side was Terry Thomas, who forced one fumble and made seven total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Independence took a blow against Magnolia Heights on Friday, falling 42-9. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Chiefs are ranked 42nd).

Independence's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. As for Coahoma County, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
