Softball Game Preview: Holy Redeemer Royals vs. South Williamsport Mountaineers

The Holy Redeemer Royals will take on the South Williamsport Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Holy Redeemer: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while South Williamsport has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.

Holy Redeemer gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Hanover Area 14-7. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Hawkeyes recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Anne Carter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Abby Williams, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoe Pecuch, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, South Williamsport unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Bald Eagle Area by a score of 1-0. The Mountaineers were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Eagles' pitchers proved too tough.

South Williamsport's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Holy Redeemer, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
