Softball Recap: Nooksack Valley's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Nooksack Valley's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Blaine Borderites. For the Pioneers, this counts as revenge for the 17-0 victory the Borderites walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Alayna Vanieperen looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Alayna Dykstra was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Grace Dehoog was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Nooksack Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.

With the win, Nooksack Valley broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-3. As for Blaine, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Nooksack Valley and Blaine could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings. The Pioneers will face off against Kittitas at 2:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (160 vs. 50). Meanwhile, Blaine (ranked 219th) will meet Sedro-Woolley (ranked 26th) at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
