The Mason Comets will challenge the St. Ignatius Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mason is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Mason and Sycamore had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Comets were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Aviators on Friday. Considering the Comets have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Chase Cox, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hutch Crociata, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Ignatius). They blew past Padua Franciscan 11-1 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
St. Ignatius also got a great performance from Patrick Cousineau as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Cousineau has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Mick Allington and Brett Krugman did most of the damage at the plate: Allington went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Krugman went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That triple marked the first that Allington has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Merheb, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
St. Ignatius was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Mason pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for St. Ignatius, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Mason might still be hurting after the 16-5 defeat they got from St. Ignatius in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
