Soccer Recap: Esparto Comes Up Short

After flying high against Woodland Christian on Thursday, Esparto came back down to earth. The Esparto Spartans came up short against the Woodland Wolves on Friday, falling 11-3. The loss was the Spartans' first of the season.

David Martinez and Alan Venegas scored all three of Esparto's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Esparto fell to 4-1. As for Woodland, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0-1.

Esparto will be home for the holidays to greet Highlands at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Esparto is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 5.6 goals per game this season. As for Woodland, they and Sutter will meet in a canine-themed contest at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Sutter is on a three-game streak of home wins, Woodland a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the pitch.
