Baseball Game Preview: Excelsior Charter Eagles vs. Hesperia Christian Patriots

Excelsior Charter is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Hesperia Christian a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The Excelsior Charter Eagles will welcome the Hesperia Christian Patriots at 3:15 p.m. Excelsior Charter has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

The scorekeeper got an easy start last Thursday as neither Excelsior Charter nor Big Bear made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Eagles lost 12-6 to the Bears. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bears since last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Hesperia Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Big Bear on Thursday and fell 12-11.

Luke Beasley was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. He has become a key player for Hesperia Christian: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 7-9 otherwise. Beasley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Dylan Alfonzo and Cory Villalba stepped up to the plate in a big way. Alfonzo went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Villalba went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Alfonzo has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Solorzano, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Hesperia Christian now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Excelsior Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.

Excelsior Charter skirted past Hesperia Christian 6-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
