Basketball Game Preview: Wicomico Indians vs. Dover Senators

The Wicomico Indians just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Dover Senators at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wicomico has seven straight victories, Dover has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Wicomico is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Polytech, who was ranked 13th in their home state at the time (Wicomico was ranked 17th). The Indians came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 55-47 on Friday. Give the Indians' offense some serious credit: that high-scoring performance was actually the fewest points they've scored all season.

Wicomico found their leader in sophomore Trinity Purnell, who shot 85% from the field en route to 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Purnell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Se'Lah Foreman, who posted eight points along with seven assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Dover scored the most points they've had this season last Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They were beaten by William Penn 59-31.

Wicomico's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Dover, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Things could have been worse for Wicomico, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-35 loss to Dover in their previous meeting back in December of 2023.
