Baseball Recap: Columbus Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Columbus won against Grand Island on Monday with four runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Discoverers came out on top against the Omaha North Vikings by a score of 4-1. Winning may never get old, but the Discoverers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Matthew Krueger and Easton Bell dominated on the mound. Krueger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Bell pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Columbus is 2-1 when Krueger allows three or fewer hits, but 10-14 otherwise.

At the plate, Columbus let Connor Cameron and Quenton Gustafson run wild. Cameron went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double, while Gustafson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double. Cameron is becoming a predictor of Columbus' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-15 when he doesn't).

Columbus pushed their record up to 12-15 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch. As for Omaha North, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-11.

As of now, neither Columbus nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
