Basketball Recap: Jakayla Newsome's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Menendez over Tocoi Creek

Menendez played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 51-28 to the Tocoi Creek Toros. The game marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jakayla Newsome, who posted eight points and six rebounds. Newsome has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Tocoi Creek was led to victory by Gabi Iturralde and Audrey Beyer. Iturralde went 7 of 15 on her way to 17 points in addition to five assists and five steals, while Beyer went 7 of 16 on her way to 18 points along with five boards and three steals. Addy Curry was another key player, putting up three points and five rebounds.

Menendez now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Tocoi Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Menendez wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-40 victory against St. Augustine on the 13th. As for Tocoi Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-33 defeat against Bishop Kenny on the 13th.
