Basketball Recap: Callie Weiss' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Peotone over Coal City

Peotone lost against Coal City back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Peotone Blue Devils fell 53-41 to the Coal City Coalers. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 585th, while the Coalers are ranked 259th).

Peotone's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Callie Weiss, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and six steals. The dominant performance gave Weiss a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Olivia Moe, who put up seven points and five steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Peotone and nudges their season record down to 4-17. As for Coal City, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Peotone will venture away from home to challenge Lisle at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Coal City, they will welcome Streator at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Coal City has three straight wins, Streator has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
