Softball Recap: Firebaugh Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Firebaugh came out on top against Lynwood on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Falcons walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Knights. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-5 back in March.

Abygail Huizar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Camila Curumaco was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Esmeralda Martinez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Firebaugh's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11 runs. As for Lynwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

Firebaugh and Lynwood could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Falcons will challenge Paramount at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (544 vs. 203). Meanwhile, Lynwood (ranked 874th) will meet Downey (ranked 56th) at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
