Baseball Recap: Hilbert's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Hilbert came into Monday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers with a sharp 11-3 victory on Monday. That looming 11-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wolves yet this season.

Spencer Karls made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Hilbert: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 0-6 otherwise. Karls was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That run marked the first that he has scored this season.

In other batting news, Max Schneider was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peter Kesler, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Hilbert's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for Manitowoc Lutheran, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Looking ahead, Hilbert is taking a road trip to challenge Sheboygan Area Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Manitowoc Lutheran will be paying especially close attention to the Wolves' contest: after the Wolves face off against the Crusaders, they'll take on Manitowoc Lutheran again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
