The Resurrection Christian Cougars will head out to square off against the Berthoud Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Resurrection Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Resurrection Christian is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Fort Morgan just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 9-5 to the Mustangs.

Resurrection Christian got a good showing from Will Busby, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off six hits. Busby has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Colton Barber was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Weston Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Berthoud made easy work of Greeley Central on Monday and carried off a 12-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Trent Jacobs made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Berthoud is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Jacobs was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Berthoud let Gage Slaby and Gavin Kirk run wild. Slaby went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Kirk went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Slaby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anderson Austin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Berthoud hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Berthoud's record now sits at 8-9. As for Resurrection Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Resurrection Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berthoud struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Resurrection Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Berthoud when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 12-7. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
