Recap: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Carmel Corsairs
The Mt. Vernon Rams had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They walked away with a 51-42 win over Carmel. Given Mt. Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Carmel is ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Mt. Vernon to victory were David Barnes and Navontae D nesbit jr.. Barnes scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while D nesbit jr. scored 18 points. The contest was D nesbit jr.'s 12th in a row with at least ten points.
Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for Carmel, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Mt. Vernon and Marist will face off at 12:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Marist has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 471 points over their last seven contests. Carmel's road trip will continue as they head out to face Glenwood on December 30, 2023.
