Basketball Recap: King's Christian Academy Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Friendship Collegiate Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lanham Christian, King's Christian Academy was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 80-64 victory over the Friendship Collegiate Academy Knights. The win was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 187th in Maryland, while the Knights are ranked 30th in District of Columbia).

Earl B. Edmonds was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 23 points and 13 boards. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zymere Somerville, who went 7 for 11 en route to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

King's Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

King's Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-18. As for Friendship Collegiate Academy, their loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-19.

Coming up, King's Christian Academy will head out to face off against Takoma Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Friendship Collegiate Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
