Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley proved they can win big on Friday (they won by eight) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Chico Panthers 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since March 8th.

Alissa Snipes was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Thurman, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Carisma Ta'Amai was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Pleasant Valley pushed their record up to 17-5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Chico, they moved to 15-10 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pleasant Valley will square off against rival Foothill at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.6, the Cougars 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Chico is set to face off against their familiar foe Enterprise at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
