Basketball Preview: Carroll Eagles vs. Greenville Tigers

Carroll is 8-2 against the Tigers since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Carroll Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Greenville Tigers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carroll has three straight wins, the Tigers have 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Carroll only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 35-point they dealt the Yellowjackets on Thursday. Carroll simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Yellowjackets 79-44 at home. Given Carroll's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carroll to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lakeith Person, who scored 29 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Person also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Michael Culver, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile, Greenville pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-56 to Calhoun. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Greenville in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.

Carroll has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Greenville, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-23.

Carroll beat the Tigers 60-53 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Carroll repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
