Softball Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Douglas County Huskies

The Overland Trailblazers will challenge the Douglas County Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Overland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 20-10 margin over Aurora Central on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trailblazers needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.

Michaela Halton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Halton was even better at the plate, scoring five runs and stealing five bases while going 4-for-5.

In other batting news, Elina Relford was incredible, going 5-for-5 with a home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those RBI marked the first that she's brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sasha Davis, who scored five runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Overland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. The last time their batting average was this high was back in September of 2023.

Meanwhile, Douglas County got themselves on the board against Dakota Ridge on Tuesday, but Dakota Ridge never followed suit. They blew past the Eagles 19-0. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Huskies considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Overland now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Douglas County, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.
