Basketball Game Preview: Erie Tigers vs. Brighton Bulldogs

The Erie Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Brighton Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Erie is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 70-41 victory over Niwot. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Cougars are ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Erie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Callen Gebhardt led the charge by going 5-for-9 on his way to 14 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Gebhardt is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christopher Smith, who posted 11 points and six steals.

Gebhardt wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Erie was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, everything went Brighton's way against Northglenn on Tuesday as Brighton made off with a 93-71 win. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-27.

Erie pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points over those games. As for Brighton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.

Everything came up roses for Erie against Brighton when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 68-38 victory. Does Erie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Brighton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
