Basketball Preview: Wausa Vikings vs. Osmond/Randolph Hawks

The Wausa Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Osmond/Randolph Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Wausa is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.

Wausa scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Winside by a score of 46-28 (the very same score they lost by the week prior). For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Wausa has managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wausa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sienna West, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Elle Brazel, who scored nine points along with six steals.

Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 25 to 11 on the offensive boards, a fact Osmond/Randolph proved on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 51-24 victory over Winside at home. Osmond/Randolph pushed the score to 41-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wildcats cut but never quite recovered from.

Osmond/Randolph can attribute much of their success to Ella Scott, who scored 15 points along with four steals, and Keli Aschoff, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Scott scored 15 or more points. Sophie Gansebom was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals and two blocks.

Wausa's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-13. Osmond/Randolph's record is now 4-14.

Wausa came up short against the Hawks in their previous meeting back in January, falling 48-37. Can Wausa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
